ISRO Launches PSLV-C62 with 16 Satellites in Major Space Mission Today
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), in collaboration with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), is set to carry out a major space mission today with the launch of the PSLV-C62 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The launch is scheduled for 10:17 am.
This mission marks the 64th flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and will use the PSLV-DL variant. The rocket will carry a total of 18 payloads, including 16 satellites from India and international partners.
The main payload of the mission is EOS-N1, a powerful Earth Observation satellite designed to enhance monitoring of the Earth’s surface. Along with EOS-N1, 15 small satellites will be placed into orbit to support various scientific and commercial objectives.
A key highlight of the mission is the testing of a device called KID (Kestrel), developed by a Spanish startup. After completing its experiment, the device will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere and is expected to splash down in the South Pacific Ocean.
PSLV is regarded as ISRO’s most reliable launch vehicle, having successfully completed landmark missions such as Chandrayaan-1, Mangalyaan, and Aditya-L1. In 2017, PSLV created history by launching 104 satellites in a single mission, setting a world record.
With this launch, ISRO continues to strengthen India’s position as a leading and dependable player in the global space sector.
