Indian Idol Season 3 Winner Prashant Tamang Passes Away at 43: Renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang, winner of Indian Idol Season 3 (2007), passed away on Sunday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest, sending shockwaves across the music and film fraternity. He was 43.
According to close friends and initial reports, Prashant Tamang passed away at his residence in Janakpuri, New Delhi. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Dwarka, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The news has come as a major shock, as Tamang was reportedly in good health and had recently returned to Delhi after a live performance in Arunachal Pradesh. There were no prior indications of illness.
His close friend and Indian Idol 3 runner-up Amit Paul confirmed the tragic news on social media, writing, “This world will never be the same again; my brother is gone.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also paid tribute, calling Prashant Tamang “the pride of the Darjeeling hills.” Several artists, including his music partner Bhaven Dhanak and filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani, shared emotional messages remembering his kindness and contribution to Indian entertainment.
Prashant Tamang rose to national fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3 in 2007, a victory that sparked massive celebrations across Northeast India, Darjeeling, and Nepal. At the time, he was serving as a constable in the Kolkata Police, making his success story even more inspiring.
Beyond music, Tamang carved a strong identity as an actor. He was recently seen in the hit web series “Paatal Lok 2,” where he played the intense role of Daniel Lecho, a sharpshooter. He is also set to appear in Salman Khan’s upcoming film “Battle of Galwan,” which will now be released posthumously.
Prashant Tamang is survived by his wife Geeta Thapa and their 4-year-old daughter, Aria. His family remains in deep shock, and final arrangements for the funeral—whether in Delhi or Darjeeling—are yet to be officially confirmed.
His untimely passing marks the loss of a beloved artist whose journey from a police constable to a national icon inspired millions.
