India Issues Fresh Advisory Urging Citizens to Leave Iran Amid Rising Tensions
Indian Government Advises Citizens to Exit Iran Amid Fears of US Military Strike: Amid escalating tensions and speculation of a possible US strike on Iran, the Indian government on Tuesday issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian citizens currently in Iran to leave the country at the earliest.
The advisory applies to all categories of Indian nationals, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists. It follows an earlier advisory issued on January 5 and has been released in view of the rapidly changing security situation in the region. The government has advised Indian citizens to use available options, including commercial flights, to exit Iran as soon as possible.
The Ministry of External Affairs also reiterated that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in Iran should exercise extreme caution. They have been advised to avoid protests, public gatherings, and crowded places, and to remain vigilant at all times. Indian nationals have been urged to stay in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and closely follow local media for updates on the evolving situation.
In addition, the government has asked Indian citizens residing in Iran to keep all essential travel and immigration documents—such as passports, visas, and identification papers—readily available. Those requiring assistance have been advised to reach out to the Indian Embassy.
To facilitate emergency support, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has released helpline numbers for Indian nationals: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359. Citizens can also contact the embassy via email at cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.
The advisory further calls on all Indian citizens in Iran who have not yet registered with the Indian Embassy to do so immediately. A registration link has been made available on the embassy’s official website. In cases where individuals are unable to register due to internet restrictions in Iran, their family members in India have been permitted to complete the registration on their behalf.
The Indian government said it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further advisories as necessary to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals in the region.
