Lok Sabha Adjourned Repeatedly Amid Uproar, PM Modi’s Reply Cancelled as Opposition Protests Escalate
Women MPs Surround PM Modi’s Seat, Lok Sabha Disrupted Before His Speech: The Budget Session of the Lok Sabha witnessed intense disruptions on Wednesday, forcing multiple adjournments of the House amid loud protests by opposition members. The uproar was so severe that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address had to be cancelled.
The situation deteriorated after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to quote from the unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General M M Naravane during the proceedings. Following this, opposition MPs intensified their protests, creating repeated disturbances in the House.
When the Lok Sabha reconvened at 5 pm, opposition members again raised slogans and rushed towards the well of the House. Moments before Prime Minister Modi was expected to speak, women MPs from the opposition staged a protest near the treasury benches, blocking seats of ruling party members, including the Prime Minister’s seat.
Among the protesting MPs were Varsha Gaikwad and Jyotimani, who held a large banner reading “Do what is right.” The protest was aimed at opposing the suspension of eight opposition MPs a day earlier.

With Sandhya Rai presiding over the House in the Speaker’s absence, the proceedings were adjourned once again due to the disorder. The protesting MPs eventually ended their demonstration after appeals from several Union ministers.
Reacting sharply to the incident, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari alleged that the protest was part of a pre-planned strategy by the Congress and claimed that the women MPs intended to attack Prime Minister Modi. Calling the incident “horrific,” he said it reflected the desperation of the opposition.
According to an NDTV report, Manoj Tiwari stated that the situation could have escalated further but was brought under control due to the presence of mind of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The repeated disruptions have stalled key legislative business in the Budget Session, further deepening the confrontation between the government and the opposition.
