With the easy availability of mobile phones and the internet, even young children are easily connecting to digital platforms.
Meanwhile, the Modi government and experts are concerned that children may be affected by inappropriate content, cyberbullying and online addiction. For this reason, age-based regulations are being considered for the use of social media. Many countries have already taken steps to protect children online. Countries like Australia and France have tightened rules for minors on social media platforms and imposed company responsibilities. Following these countries, India is also looking for options to protect children on digital platforms.
On the other hand, the Modi government has said that discussions are currently underway with social media companies. In addition, opinions of all parties are being taken on age-based restrictions.
