UGC Identifies 32 Fake Universities In 12 States Of The Country : Delhi Tops The List ,The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 fake universities operating in 12 states of the country. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of students and the credibility of higher education. The latest data shows that the number of such institutions has increased from 20 to 32 in the last two years. This indicates a growing number of unauthorized universities.
In this regard, the UGC has advised students and parents to be cautious and not to take admission in these educational institutions. All these universities are not recognized as per UGC rules and the universities do not have the authority to award valid degrees.
The newly added states include Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh. All these states have been reported to have one fake university each. The commission has issued a specific warning about an institution operating in Bengaluru under the name Global Human Peace University, warning that it is not authorized to operate as a university.
Delhi has the highest number of fake universities
Delhi has the highest number of fake universities. There are 12 such institutions operating in the national capital. These include All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Limited, United Nations University, Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment and Institute of Management and Engineering. Some of these institutions are located near regulatory offices, raising questions about supervision and enforcement.
Other states where fake universities have been identified include Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Several educational institutions from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are on the list. Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth in Prayagraj and the Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine in Kolkata are also on the list. Magic and Kala Universities in Faridabad in Haryana are listed, while Daksha University in Ranchi in Jharkhand is on the list.
The UGC said that these educational institutions are misleading students by awarding degrees without approval, which is jeopardizing their educational and career prospects. Students have been asked to check the official list of recognized universities on the website before applying for admission.
Education experts say that fake universities often lure students by promising quick degrees, low fees or flexible courses. Many operate without proper infrastructure, faculty or educational standards.
Fake educational institutions are posing as foreign universities
Another problem has also emerged in recent years. Some fake educational institutions are presenting themselves as foreign universities or claiming international affiliations. As a result, it is now difficult for students to identify legitimate educational institutions.
