Rupee Hits Record Low of 92.52 Against Dollar Amid Global Oil Surge

Rupee Crash: Middle East Tensions Push Rupee to Record Low Against US Dollar: The Indian Rupee came under heavy pressure on Monday, falling to its lowest level ever against the United States Dollar. In early trading, the rupee touched a record low of 92.52 per dollar, raising concerns about the impact on the Indian economy. Market analysts say the sharp fall in the currency was mainly driven by surging global crude oil prices and increased demand for the US dollar.

Experts believe the main reason behind the rupee’s decline is the growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving United States, Israel, and Iran. Concerns about possible disruptions to global oil supplies have pushed up the price of Brent Crude Oil by nearly 25 percent, taking it above $116 per barrel.

Since India imports more than 80 percent of its crude oil requirements, rising oil prices have increased the need for dollars among Indian oil companies and importers. This heavy demand for the dollar has put additional pressure on the rupee.

Market participants are closely watching the role of the Reserve Bank of India. Analysts expect the central bank to step in to reduce excessive volatility in the currency market. The RBI can slow the rupee’s decline by selling dollars from its foreign exchange reserves, a move experts often describe as a “speed breaker” to prevent rapid currency depreciation.
