The complaint was filed by lawyer Wajid Khan at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station. He alleged that Hardik celebrated the win with his girlfriend Mahika Sharma at the Narendra Modi Stadium after India defeated New Zealand.
According to the complaint, Hardik had the Indian flag tied around his waist while celebrating. The lawyer claimed this act violates the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
The controversy started after videos of the celebration went viral on social media. In the clips, Hardik and Mahika were seen dancing, posing with the trophy, and celebrating the victory.
Police said the complaint has been received and will be reviewed. They will investigate whether the act actually disrespected the national flag or was simply part of the victory celebrations.
