The US has sent Iran a comprehensive 15-point peace plan to end the war in the Middle East. According to a New York Times report, the proposal was sent to Iran through Pakistan. The New York Times reported that the Trump administration wants to find a way to end the conflict as soon as possible, given the economic impact of the war. The plan includes strict restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program, a halt to all uranium enrichment activities, and the transfer of enriched uranium stocks.
According to a media report, the US and Iran may announce a ceasefire for a month. During this period, detailed discussions will be held on the 15-point plan. The peace plan is expected to include conditions such as completely stopping any uranium enrichment on Iranian soil and transferring existing enriched material to international control. Halting ballistic missile development for five years and allowing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to inspect centrifuges. Also, among other conditions, fully opening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring unimpeded maritime transport, Iran’s support for regional proxy groups should be stopped. In return, all international sanctions imposed on Iran will be lifted.
Iran will be given international assistance to develop a civilian nuclear energy program at a site like Bushehr. The Trump administration has not yet officially commented on the report. Both the White House and the US State Department have remained silent. There has been no official response from Israel.
The news comes as the war enters its fourth week and reports of indirect talks between the two sides surface. Iran has yet to formally respond to the plan, although some sources say Tehran may show flexibility on some issues.
Meanwhile, Iran has also set some conditions for ending the war. In response to Trump’s proposal, Iran has demanded a framework that would close American ports in the Gulf region, lift all sanctions, end Israeli operations against Hezbollah and allow it to collect fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the Wall Street Journal reported.
