Potato Prices : Potatoes cost Rs 5 in wholesale, Rs 20 in shops. Two different pictures are emerging regarding the price of potatoes in the state. On one hand, there is a claim that there is more stock and production than required, on the other hand, consumers are being forced to buy potatoes at exorbitant prices in the market. There is a big difference between wholesale and retail prices. Despite the abundance of potato production and stock in the state, the question of increasing prices is being raised.
This year, 20 percent more potatoes have been cultivated, which indicates a production surplus. A quintal of potatoes is being sold for Rs 300 to Rs 550. While potatoes are bought from the market for a maximum of Rs 5 per kg, potatoes are being sold for Rs 15 to Rs 20 in the market. This huge difference has raised questions.
