Vehicles Without Valid PUC to Be Denied Fuel Across Delhi
No PUC, No Fuel: Delhi Government Enforces Strict Pollution Rule: In a major step to combat rising air pollution, the Delhi government has announced strict enforcement of Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification for all vehicles. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed that no petrol pump in the capital will provide fuel—petrol, diesel, or CNG—to any vehicle without a valid PUC certificate.
The decision aims to tackle vehicular emissions, which are considered one of the primary contributors to Delhi’s worsening air quality. According to the Chief Minister, ensuring compliance with emission norms is essential to protect public health and improve environmental conditions in the city.
Under the new directive, all fuel stations and gas agencies have been instructed to verify the validity of PUC certificates before dispensing fuel. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against petrol pumps that fail to comply with the order.
As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, vehicles are required to obtain a PUC certificate after completing one year from the date of registration. Despite this mandate, enforcement has been lax in the past, with many vehicle owners neglecting the requirement. The new rule is expected to significantly improve compliance.
This move is part of broader efforts under the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The guidelines emphasize strict monitoring of vehicular pollution as a key measure to curb air pollution levels.
The government believes that this stringent step will discourage the use of highly polluting vehicles and encourage regular emission checks. Officials have urged citizens to ensure their PUC certificates are up to date to avoid inconvenience at fuel stations.
