LPG Prices Surge Amid US-Iran War, Commercial Cylinder Up by ₹993: The ongoing US-Iran conflict has begun to impact daily life, with a sharp rise in LPG prices adding to the burden on the general public. Starting late Thursday night, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹993, taking it to ₹3,099 from the earlier ₹2,106. The hike is expected to affect businesses heavily, especially hotels, restaurants, and catering services that rely on commercial gas cylinders for daily operations.
While the surge in commercial cylinder prices has raised concerns, there is some relief for households as domestic LPG cylinder rates remain unchanged for now. However, the cost of smaller 5-kg cylinders has also increased significantly by ₹242, with refilling now costing ₹833 instead of ₹591. This increase is likely to hit daily wage earners and migrant workers the hardest, as many depend on these smaller cylinders for cooking.
The rising prices are also expected to impact social events and the food industry. Families planning weddings may face higher catering costs, as confectioners and caterers depend on commercial LPG cylinders. Experts suggest that the price hike is linked to supply disruptions and global pressure arising from the conflict, further intensifying the ongoing LPG crisis and putting additional financial strain on consumers and traders alike.
