‘Yoga promote healthy and active living’, PM’s fitness mantra on International Yoga day program: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday participated in the 12th International Yoga Day program in Kolkata. PM stressed on making yoga not just a form of exercise but a part of lifestyle.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Modi gave fitness mantra to the country from Kolkata’s Red Road. The theme of International Yoga Day 2026 is ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’. The aim of this theme is to promote healthy and active living in the aging population. Regular yoga practice can help maintain physical fitness, reduce mental stress, develop emotional balance and improve quality of life.

Practicing yoga among thousands of people, he said that aging is natural, but keeping the body and mind active, balanced and energetic is in our hands. He emphasized that yoga is not limited to a few asanas, rather it is a way of life that establishes balance in the body, mind and thoughts. Yoga is the most effective means in this direction. ‘We aim to be more flexible at 40 than at 20. We aim to be more energetic at 50 than at 30. We aim to be more resistant to lifestyle diseases at 70 than at 50. This is where yoga can help us,’ he added.
