Despite the government’s efforts, sugar prices in the domestic market continue to rise. According to data from the last month, the price of sugar has increased by an average of 8% to 15%.
The surge in sugar prices has raised concerns that sweets may become more expensive during the upcoming festive season. At the same time, it is also affecting the domestic budget. Now the sugar mills have taken an important step to curb the rising prices. The price of sugar has climbed up to rupees 400 per quintal in the wholesale market over the past 1 month. Amid the worsening situation, sugar mills have decided to begin the sugar crushing operations 10 to 15 days earlier this year. So that the supply of new sugar in the market can be met as soon as possible.
According to government data, the retail prices of sugar in the major metros and states of the country have seen a significant jump within the last month.
Delhi: Sugar which was ₹45 per kg a month ago, has now increased to ₹49 per kg.
Mumbai: Prices have gone up to ₹52 per kg from ₹46 per kg.
West Bengal: The highest impact has been seen here. The price has increased from ₹49 per kg to ₹55 per kg.
Ranchi: The price of sugar has increased from ₹47 a kg to ₹51 a kg.
Chennai: Rates have jumped from ₹46 a kg to ₹53 a kg.
