Dickwella has been included as the wicketkeeper in the absence of Kusal Mendis, who has been ruled out of the opening test due to injury.
De Silva will lead opening test in Galle against India: Sri Lanka Cricket(SLC) on Wednesday announced a 16-member squad for the first Test of the two-match series against India. The series will kick off on August 15 in Galle. Dhananjay de Silva will captain the team, while Kamindu Mendis will act as his deputy.
SLC has included experienced wicketkeeper- batter Niroshan Dickwella, making a comeback to the test team. Dickwella has been included as the wicketkeeper in the absence of Kusal Mendis, who has been ruled out of the opening test due to injury. Batter Pathum Nissanka is out of the team. Ramesh Mendis, Prabhat Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha will take charge of the spin department. While the pace attack comprises Milan Rathnayake, Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, and Dilshan Madushanka. Another youngster, right-arm off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha, is also in line to make his Test debut after building an impressive record in domestic cricket.
The opening test will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15-19. The series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
