Veteran Odia playback singer Pranab Patnaik passes away: Veteran Odia playback singer Pranab Kishore Patnaik passed away on Friday. He had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He breathed his last at the age of 88.

Pranab Kishore Patnaik was a popular name in the Odia music industry. He lent his voice over 200 odia films and worked with several prominent music directors. He shared the stage with legends like Hemlata, Vani Jayaram, S. Janaki, P. Susheela, Nirmala Mishra, Bhupinder Singh, Usha Mangeshkar, and Haimanti Sukla. His work remains cherished by people across generations. His contribution to Odia music made him one of the most respected and celebrated singers in the state.

He began his formal training under Guru Kunal Adinarayan and made his playback debut in 1958 with the film Maa. Patnaik remains the only Odia playback singer to win the State Film Award for Best Playback Singer seven times. His recognitions include the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1997-98), Jayadev Puraskar (2016), and the Balakrishna Dash Memorial Award (2023), among many others.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in an ‘X’ post, expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Shri Pranab Patnaik, calling it an irreparable loss to Odisha’s cultural and musical heritage.

Following the news of his demise, condolences poured in from dignitaries, fellow artists, and fans, all of whom remembered his significant contribution to Odia music.
