The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Monday stating that the second phase of the census in the snowy areas of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be held from September 1 to September 30. Before this, people will be able to fill in their information online from August 17 to August 30. This means that the questionnaires for the second phase of the census will also be released soon.
It also stated that the census reference date for Ladakh and the snow-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be 12 midnight on October 1, 2026. At the same time, the second phase of population census for the rest of the country is likely to start next year.

The drop-down menu will show the SC/ST list of the same state where the respondent is being enumerated. The spelling of the caste as stated by the respondent shall be recorded. It will not be mandatory to show any document or caste certificate to verify SC, ST, or other caste information. For the first time in the 2nd phase Census, the date of birth and place of birth of the parents can also be collected. This is considered an important parameter for determining nationality.
People are often confused about self-enumeration in the census. Self-enumeration is actually an online process, in which you can submit your family information on the SE portal se.census.gov.in. You don’t need to wait for an enumerator for this.
