Indian women’s TT team beats Pakistan 3-0, advances to knockout stage: The Indian women’s table tennis team defeated Pakistan 3-0 in their final group match at the ongoing 2026 Asian Games on Monday. With this victory, India have completely secured their place in the knockout round.
With this one-sided win, India have entered the knockout round. Sutirtha Mukherjee, Cinderella Das and Sreeja Akula easily won their respective matches in straight games. Although the win does not guarantee a medal, the performance has boosted the team’s morale for the next stages of the tournament.According to match report India dominated the match from starting. Experienced Sutirtha Mukherjee got off to a flying start as she easily defeated Alina Khan by 11-3, 11-3, 11-4. After this, 17-year-old Cinderella Das defeated Kalsum Khan 11-6, 11-7, 11-5. Finally, Srija Akula completed a clean sweep by defeating Fatima Khan 11-4, 11-4, 11-5. With India taking an undeniable 3-0 lead, the remaining two matches became unnecessary. The aggregate score of the match was 9-0 in favor of India, Pakistan looked to struggle to match the Indian players and with it they were eliminated from the group stage.
The team had a great start to their campaign by beating Indonesia 3-0 on 20 September. After this, their match against Singapore proved to be very challenging. India’s five-member team consists of Sreeja Akula, Yashaswini Ghorpade, Diya Chitle, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Cinderella Das. According to Olympics.com data, India has won only three table tennis medals so far. There were men’s team and mixed doubles in 2018, and women’s doubles in 2023. India is looking to improve its Asian Games history.
