Cyclone Arnab weakens after completing landfall: Cyclone Arnab’s landfall process completed along Andhra Yanam coasts. The system weakened from a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’. It is likely to move north-northwestwards during next 48 hours and weaken gradually.

The cyclone crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between 2 am and 8 am today as a very severe cyclonic storm with the maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph, IMD said.

IMD said the system is expected to cross through parts of southern Odisha between noon and 1:00 PM on Tuesday before tracking northwest toward Chhattisgarh. Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Kalahandi will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, added IMD. District administrations remain on high alert, advising residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday held a teleconference with about 32,000 officials, ranging from district collectors to field-level staff, to review the impact of “very severe” cyclonic storm Arnab and direct relief operations. Officials told him that no loss of life had been reported so far.

The Chief Minister lauded officials and staff for their all-night efforts. He credited the administration’s advance preparations for preventing loss of life. He also asked them to keep working in the same spirit until the cyclone’s impact eases and normal conditions return.
