The festival of Karwa Chauth holds special significance for married women. On this day, a women fast for their husbands long life, good health and happy married life.
According to Hindu mythology, there was a Pativrata woman named Karwa, who saved her husband from Yamaraj. Pleased with her devotion and chastity, the gods blessed her husband with long life. Since then Karwa Mata is considered as the protector goddess of Suhag.
It is believed that worshiping Karwa Mata brings happiness in married life, increases love between husband and wife and removes all troubles. Therefore, listening to his story and worshiping him on Karwa Chauth is considered very auspicious.
Solah Shringar, adorning with 16 ornaments, is also one of the major traditions of this festival. It is believed that ornaments like Sindoor, bangles, mangalsutra, mehndi are symbols of good luck, love and prosperity.
Special traditions of fasting, worship, moon darshan and arghya are performed on this day. Karwa, traditional vessel that holds water, a ritual pot filled with wheat grains is presented during prayers. It represent fertility, life and financial stability.
