US Midterm Elections 2026: Trump’s Republican Defeat, Democrats Win Senate: US president Donald Trump’s Republican Party has suffered a major setback in the US midterm elections. The Democratic Party has secured a majority in both the upper and lower houses of the US Congress. Democrats have made significant gains in Congress, capturing 53 Senate seats and reaching a House majority with 220 seats, the 218-seat threshold.

‘Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job. They’ve been looking for this one for 11 years, and they finally got it,’ Trump said in a social media post, ‘I am absolutely willing to accept those results.I wasn’t on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! ‘.

US vice president JD Vance has cited the Iran war as the biggest reason for his Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections. However survey data shows that American voters dissatisfaction stemmed from the issues such as war, inflation, increased petrol and diesel prices, rising daily expenses and functioning of the government.

In the midterm elections, voters not only judged the candidate’s performance, but also evaluated Trump’s 2 year tenure.

The blue wave of 2026 has ended the period in which Trump’s presidency operated without meaningful congressional resistance. Donald Trump will remain in the White House for the rest of his term, but his political influence is likely to diminish as he enters the lame-duck phase of his presidency.
