Train journeys are often accompanied by concerns about theft, fraud and passenger safety. From pickpockets targeting sleeping travellers to fraudsters posing as railway staff, unsuspecting passengers can face several risks during their journey. A recent incident involving a woman allegedly impersonating a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) has added another concern to the list.
Strange Midnight Encounter Leaves Passengers Suspicious
The incident reportedly occurred on a train travelling from Maharashtra to Bihar. At around 2 am, a woman allegedly moved through the coaches, woke up passengers and began asking them to show their tickets.
An X user named Nitu brought the episode to public attention by sharing photographs of the woman and narrating what allegedly happened. According to her account, the woman identified herself as a TTE and started conducting ticket checks.
She reportedly noticed two passengers during the inspection. While one was allegedly travelling without a ticket, another appeared reluctant to show his travel document. The woman then claimed that a fresh ticket would have to be issued.
What happened next raised eyebrows. After asking for the passenger’s name, she allegedly pulled out a blank sheet of paper from her bag and prepared to write something on it.
Passenger’s Question Forces Woman To Leave
The unusual paperwork was not the only reason passengers became suspicious. The woman was reportedly not wearing a railway TTE uniform and had not displayed any official identification.
A passenger decided to verify her credentials and demanded to see her identity card. However, she allegedly declined, claiming that she would show it only to a railway official.
Her response further fuelled doubts. When the passenger continued questioning her, she reportedly attempted to leave. She also accused him of harassment when he tried to stop her. The woman eventually disappeared into the crowd, wearing a mask.
Questioning the alleged security lapse, Nitu wrote, “Now the biggest question is, if this woman was indeed a fake TT collecting money from passengers, then how was this not detected on the train?”
Social Media Users Demand Strict Action
The account prompted several users to raise concerns about passenger security, particularly during late-night journeys.
One user wrote, “Now passengers will have to be even more alert. At 2 am, when people are asleep, they might suddenly assume that the person checking their tickets is actually a TTE.”
Another commented, “Compromising passengers’ safety on the railways should not be tolerated. Such incidents require an impartial investigation and strict action.”
RailwaySeva Responds To Viral Complaint
The matter also caught the attention of railway authorities after the post gained traction. RailwaySeva responded to the complaint, stating, “Related officials are being informed.”
