IPL 2027: Hardik’s MI exit confirmed! Arshdeep to part ways with Punjab Kings: Captains set for franchise swap ahead of 2027 Indian Premier League(IPL) season. The deal still needs BCCI’s approval before it can be officially confirmed.
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to leave Mumbai Indians and join Punjab Kings. Similarly, left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh will join Mumbai Indians leaving behind Punjab Kings.
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have reached an agreement, with the initial paperwork already completed. Discussions are underway to secure the consent of both the players. Once both agree to the terms and conditions of the trade, the deal will be submitted for approval by the IPL authorities.
Hardik’s homecoming to MI for the 2024 season did not go according to plan, with the all-rounder unable to inspire the team and replicate the results he delivered for Gujarat Titans. Interestingly, GT too had been involved in talks to win back their former captain, this time to return as a player, but the talks did not go far. Punjab Kings are also considering releasing Marcus Stoinis and Nehal Wadhera ahead of the auction.
Hardik, who led MI for three seasons, is set to play under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy in the red jersey. For Punjab Kings, Hardik’s return would boost their already strong pool of all-rounders that includes Marco Jansen, Marcus Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai and Suryansh Shedge.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep has been a key member of Punjab Kings for several seasons. He has taken 111 wickets in 96 IPL appearances. His consistent IPL performances helped him earn a place in the national side, and he is currently India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals.
Hardik’s departure would close a three-season period as Mumbai Indians captain. His appointment in 2024 was followed by considerable attention, particularly after Rohit Sharma’s removal from the leadership role.
The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled for December 16 in Goa, with the player-retention deadline extended to November 17. The franchises are expected to complete the remaining formalities before the auction.
