Ranbir Kapoor may be preparing for a major shift in his career. While the actor continues to take on ambitious projects, his latest revelation suggests that he is also looking beyond acting. The Ramayana: Rise of a Legend star has spoken about his plans to step behind the camera and make his directorial debut in the next few years.
His comments have also sparked curiosity after he described the coming decade as his last as an actor, while explaining the kind of roles he hopes to pursue.
Ranbir Kapoor Explains His ‘Last Decade as an Actor’ Remark
In a recently surfaced clip from BBC Asian Network’s interview featuring his Ramayana co-star Sai Pallavi, Ranbir opened up about his career choices and future ambitions.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor said, “I’ve had always one film out and then I started working on the other. But, I guess, it’s my last decade as an actor. You know… Like where I can…”
His comment caught Sai Pallavi and the interviewer off guard. However, Ranbir quickly explained that he was referring to the opportunities to portray certain characters rather than quitting acting altogether.
Clarifying his statement, he added, “What I mean is, where I can get to play these parts. You know…”
Sai Pallavi also stepped in when the interviewer questioned his remark. She explained, “Okay, no… he is specific about the kind of roles that he’s doing.”
Ranbir agreed and went on to reveal that directing films is something he has wanted to pursue for a long time.
He said, “Yes, the kind of roles I’m doing… I know, and since we are talking about direction, I do want to… kinda… pivot towards that. I don’t want to direct myself for sure. So I really wanna like, you know, get these films done and really get on floors with my directorial debut like in within two or three years, I hope.”
Why Ranbir Kapoor Wants to Become a Director
During the conversation, the interviewer asked whether Ranbir’s decision had anything to do with concerns about growing older or audiences losing interest in seeing him on screen.
The actor dismissed that possibility, explaining that his ambitions were driven by personal creative interests rather than public expectations.
Sharing his perspective, Ranbir said, “You know, I’m not looking it from an audience’s lens that trying to predict, okay, they might get bored of me or I’m too old. I’m looking it through my lens. You know, if I’m, if I stay inspired, if, if I’m getting good work, I would hundred percent do it. I would, I would always pursue that because there’s no f-better feeling than being inspired. That’s a luxury actually nowadays to be inspired. But having said that, it was always my passion. It was always something I always wanted to do. It was tell a story, and finally I have a story, and I hope I can, I can create it and then make it.”
