The earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture at 7:25 a.m. local time on Sunday.
A 6.1- magnitude earthquake hit Japan: A strong earthquake struck off northern Japan Sunday morning. No damage or casualties have been reported so far.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency the magnitude of earthquake was recorded a 6.1 on the Richter scale. Its depth was about 40 kilometers below the ground. The earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture at 7:25 a.m. local time on Sunday. The tremors were also felt in nearby Aomori and surrounding areas.
Within four days, this is Japan’s third major earthquake. This has raised concerns for scientists and the government. No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake. However, due to frequent earthquakes, people are worried about landslides.
