Abhinav Bindra Leaves IOC Post With Pride : Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics, has resigned from his role as the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee. “It is with great pride that I take leave of this honorable responsibility,” said the 43-year-old Bindra.

Kenyan rugby star Humphrey Kayange has been appointed to the IOC Athletes’ Commission in place of Bindra for the Winter Olympics in Italy. Bindra admitted that this role has been a meaningful part of his sporting career. I have never taken my responsibility to serve athletes around the world, to understand their concerns, to raise their voices, to keep their hopes alive and to make their dreams come true. In every discussion, every decision, every moment, I have believed that the athletes would remain at the heart of the Olympic movement. Every effort was made to strengthen the representation of athletes and to ensure that their voices were heard with respect, Bindra said after the end of his eight-year IOC tenure.
