AI Tool ‘Mythos’ Panic Goes Global as Government Issues High-Severity Alert: A powerful new artificial intelligence tool named “Mythos,” developed by an American AI company, has triggered widespread concern across governments, financial institutions, and businesses worldwide. The tool is capable of identifying vulnerabilities in digital systems that are up to 20 to 30 years old and exploiting them to launch highly sophisticated cyberattacks. Experts warn that such capabilities could allow complete control over compromised systems, raising fears about the stability of increasingly digital global infrastructure.
India has responded swiftly to the emerging threat, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman likening the situation to a form of modern warfare. She emphasized that the scale and potential impact of such AI-driven cyber threats are unprecedented, noting that the risk was virtually unknown just weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Computer Emergency Response Team-in-India (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity alert, urging micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to take immediate preventive measures to safeguard their systems.
Despite the concerns, Mythos was reportedly designed with defensive intentions—to help organizations detect and fix long-standing vulnerabilities before malicious hackers can exploit them. The developers plan to restrict access to only a select group of organizations. However, cybersecurity experts caution that if such a powerful tool falls into the wrong hands, it could lead to large-scale disruptions, making it one of the most significant technological risks in the current digital era.
