Sharif Osman Hadi had been an outspoken critic of India and had previously made controversial statements about Greater Bangladesh, including a map depicting India’s Northeast as part of Bangladesh. His assassination has led to heightened tensions between Bangladesh and India, with violent protests reported outside the Indian Embassy. In response, India temporarily suspended visa services.

The attack on Hadi occurred during his election campaign while he was traveling by rickshaw. Despite being rushed to Singapore for advanced medical treatment, doctors were unable to save his life. Authorities have vowed to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring Hadi’s killers to justice, while citizens continue to demand accountability and security.
