Deep Depression to Hit Near Kalingapatnam, Heavy Rain Alert in Odisha
Bay of Bengal Deep Depression Nears Coast, Heavy Rain in Odisha: A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is moving westward at around 12 kmph and is expected to cross the coast near Kalingapatnam by tonight. The system is bringing heavy rainfall to several parts of southern Odisha.
The weather system is currently around 70 km from Kalingapatnam and 150 km from Gopalpur. Winds may reach up to 75 kmph during landfall.
The IMD has issued a red warning for Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Kalahandi. Alerts have also been issued for Gajapati, Ganjam, Boudh and Koraput.
Semiliguda in Koraput recorded the highest rainfall of 230.2 mm in the past 24 hours. Heavy rain is also expected in Puri, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, while winds of 55–65 kmph are possible in Puri.
The weather system may damage paddy crops, vegetables and mud houses. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until September 24.
