The Chennai Super Kings team has suffered a major setback. After 18 years, head coach Stephen Fleming has left the franchise. He will not be seen in this role from the next IPL season.
Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful franchises of the IPL, have suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming season of IPL 2027. The 18-year partnership between Stephen Fleming and CSK has come to an end. Fleming, the head coach of the franchise and the team, has decided to part ways with the team by mutual consent.
Stephen Fleming first joined the team as a player for CSK in the very first season of the IPL in 2008. In 2009, he was appointed as the head coach of the team. From then till the year 2026, Fleming and Mahendra Singh Dhoni together brought many successes to the Chennai team. During Fleming’s coaching tenure, Chennai won the IPL trophy 5 times and also won the Champions League T20 title 2 times. Chennai Super Kings became one of the most promising and reliable teams in IPL history. The team reached the playoffs the most (top 4) 12 times and played in the finals of the IPL 10 times.
‘18 years is a long time in the world of sports and I am leaving with a lot of memories. My time with Chennai Super Kings has been the best and most rewarding time of my coaching career. I am very proud of what we have achieved together,’ said Stephen Fleming on parting ways with the CSK.
Apart from the IPL, Fleming has also worked as a coach in other foreign leagues with the Super Kings franchise (South Africa’s SA20 and America’s MLC).
