British author Jeffrey Archer passes away at 86: Jeffrey Archer, bestselling British novelist and former politician, passed away at the age of 86. His publisher, HarperCollins, said on Monday. Archer died suddenly and peacefully between his writing sessions, he said.
Archer was best known for bestselling novels including Kane and Abel and the Clifton Chronicles. His final novel, Adam and Eve, is due to be released on October 6. He was also scheduled to appear at the Cheltenham Festival on Saturday to discuss the book. Archer’s books sold more than 300 million copies over his five-decade writing career.
The writer had been due to appear at Cheltenham Literary Festival this week to discuss “Adam and Eve”, what he described as his final novel after 50 years of storytelling. It was due to be published Tuesday. Archer is also the only author to have held the spot for No.1 Sunday Times bestseller in fiction, short stories and non-fiction.

Archer was also a prominent Conservative politician, who briefly served as a lawmaker before becoming a senior party official under then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the mid-1980s.
