It is believed that an increase in bad cholesterol in the body can lead to the accumulation of fat in the veins, which increases the risk of heart problems. However, heart health does not depend solely on cholesterol levels. There can be many other reasons behind heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), high cholesterol is an important risk factor for heart attack but it is not the only cause.  Several factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity, lack of physical activity, stress and family history can also increase the risk of heart disease and heart attack.

Don’t ignore these signs of a heart attack. However, not everyone has the same symptoms.

  • Before a heart attack, some people may experience symptoms such as chest pain or pressure
  •  Shortness of breath
  • Extreme fatigue, dizziness
  • Jaw, neck, shoulder or arm pain

How to reduce the risk of heart attack?

  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Exercise, yoga and meditate regularly
  • Avoid smoking and drinking  alcohol as far as possible
  • Check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol level regularly.
  • Focus on 7-8 hours of sleep time
  • Control stress and maintain a healthy weight
