Birds Are Increasing In Chilika : The Winter Bird Count Report was released by the Forest Department . This year, 11,10,257 exotic birds of 106 species have arrived in Chilika. Similarly, 21,943 native birds of 90 species have been recorded in Chilika. According to the 2026 Bird Count Report, this year, 11,32,200 birds of 196 species have arrived in Chilika. In 2025, 11,27,228 birds had arrived in Chilika. This year, 3,97,587 birds have arrived in Nalavan alone, which is 54,361 more than last year.

In 2025, 343,226 birds came to Nalavan. This year, the northern pintail and Eurasian wigeon were the most common exotic birds, followed by the third Gadwal. 218,993 northern pintails, 153,318 Eurasian wigeons, and 143,127 Gadwals have arrived in Chilika. Similarly, two new species of birds, namely the Plain Martin and the Bengal Baslark, have been recorded in Chilika for the first time this year.
