EC announced By- elections for 3 Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal: The Election Commission has announced By- elections for three Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal. These seats fell vacant following the recent resignations of senior TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik. Voting on these 3 seats will be held on July 24, 2026.
According to an official press note issued by the Election Commission(EC), Sukhendu Sekhar resigned on 8 June 2026, Sushmita Dev on 10 June 2026, and Prakash Chik Baraik on 11 June, 2026. After the resignation of these leaders, the seats remained vacant. The By- election process will start with the issuance of the notification on 7 July, 2026. The last date for filing nominations will be 14 July, and nominations will be scrutinized on 15 July. Candidates can withdraw their names by 17 July. Voting for three Rajya Sabha seats will be held on 24 July from 9 am to 4 pm. On the same day, the counting of votes will start from 5 pm. The entire election process will be completed before 27 July.
The EC also clarified that the By- elections will be completely independent and separate notifications will be issued for the 3 seats.
