Election Dates for Five States to Be Announced Today: West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the dates for elections in five states today, Sunday, March 15. The states are West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. The press conference will be held at 4 pm today at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

These elections must be conducted before the legislative assemblies of these states expire by June 15.

Elections for 824 Seats in 5 States

The total number of seats across these states is 824:

  • West Bengal: 294 seats
  • Tamil Nadu: 234 seats
  • Assam: 126 seats
  • Kerala: 140 seats
  • Puducherry: 30 seats

Voter Details for Each State:

  1. West Bengal
  • Voters: 70 million (36 million men, 34 million women, 1,402 third-gender voters)
  • Last election: TMC won 215 seats, BJP won 77 seats.
  1. Tamil Nadu
  • Voters: 56 million (27 million men, 28 million women, 7,617 third-gender voters)
  • Last election: DMK won 133 seats, AIADMK won 66 seats, BJP won 5 seats.
  1. Assam
  • Voters: 24 million (12 million men, 12 million women, 343 third-gender voters)
  • Last election: NDA won 75 seats, Himanta Biswa Sarma became Chief Minister.
  1. Kerala
  • Voters: 26 million (13 million men, 13 million women, 277 third-gender voters)
  • Last election: LDF won 99 seats, UDF won 41 seats, Pinarayi Vijayan became Chief Minister.
  1. Puducherry
  • Voters: 9.4 lakh (4.4 lakh men, 1.5 lakh women, 139 third-gender voters)
  • Last election: NDA won 16 seats, UPA won 9 seats, N. Rangaswamy became Chief Minister.

The Election Commission will provide more details during the press conference later today.
