EPFO extended deadline for PF filing

Deadline for submission of PF returns extended. Now employee details can accurately calculated before submitting returns and making payments

EPFO extended deadline for PF filing: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for submission of PF returns of September 2026 to October 31. Earlier the deadline was October 15, 2026. This decision will provide relief to those companies and other employers who were facing difficulties in updating records related to salary and PF contribution of employees.

The move is linked to the revised salary limit under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme. Contributions for September 1–16 will be calculated using the earlier ₹15,000 ceiling, while contributions from September 17–30 will use the revised ₹25,000 ceiling. This makes the September ECR more complicated than a regular monthly filing. This mid-month change means employers will have to calculate their September PF returns for two different periods. This is why employers have been given additional time to file PF returns. EPFO announced extension of deadline on 14th October.

The additional time is intended to help establishments update payroll records, verify employee details and calculate contributions accurately before submitting returns and making payments. However, this relief is only for returns for the salary month of September 2026. The deadline for the other months has not been changed.
