PM Modi Hosts UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Presents Traditional Indian Gifts During Brief Visit
From Wooden Swing to Pashmina Shawl: PM Modi’s Special Gifts to UAE President: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended a warm and personal welcome to United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his brief visit to India. Although the visit lasted only a few hours, it marked a significant moment in bilateral relations, with India and the UAE signing several important agreements aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Modi received Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his mother, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Qatabi, at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting reflected the close personal rapport between the leaders of the two countries.
As a gesture of goodwill and cultural connection, PM Modi presented the UAE President with a traditional hand-carved wooden swing, a cherished element of Gujarati households. Photographs from the meeting show Modi and Al Nahyan seated together on the intricately carved swing, placed against a backdrop of marigold flower decorations.
Officials explained that in Gujarati culture, the swing symbolizes togetherness, dialogue, and the bond between generations. They added that the gift holds special significance as it aligns with the UAE’s declaration of 2026 as the “Year of the Family.”
In addition to the swing, Prime Minister Modi gifted Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan a Kashmiri Pashmina shawl, presented in an ornate silver box. The shawl, crafted in Telangana, highlighted India’s rich handloom and handicraft heritage.
Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Qatabi was also presented with Kashmiri saffron, carefully packed in a silver box. Saffron from the Kashmir Valley is globally renowned for its deep red hue, distinctive aroma, and superior quality.
The exchange of traditional gifts underscored the deep cultural ties and growing warmth between India and the UAE, reinforcing the strong diplomatic and people-to-people relationship shared by the two nations.
