Interestingly, the singer came from a non- cinematic background. His voice is so distinct that a listener soon recognizes it after hearing the first few lines. He is none other than renowned singer Kailash Kher.

Kailash Kher gained popularity in the industry with this song, but the journey to this point was not easy for him. There was a period in his life when after a heavy loss in business he went into depression and started thinking about ending his life. Kailash Kher, who ruled millions of hearts with Sufiana style turned 48 on July 7.

Born in Meerut,Uttar Pradesh, Kailash Kher inherited musical education from his father. His father, Pandit Mehr Singh Kher, was a priest and would often sing traditional folk songs at home events. He was an amateur musician. Kailash Kher took music lessons from his father in his childhood and from there his entire focus became on music. At the age of 14, he left his home in search of Guru. After leaving home, he settled in Rishikesh and used to participate in Bhajan Mandali along with Sadhu Saints on the banks of the Ganges. Kailash Kher wanted to study classical and folk music. He studied through correspondence from Delhi University and also studied music. He learned music from institutes like Sangeet Bharati and Gandharva College.

Kailash Kher has given his voice in more than 700 songs along with the saints who were running away from home. His songs have hints of Indian folk songs and Sufi music. He has performed in around 1000 music concerts around the world in about 10 years. Kailash Kher got 5 thousand rupees for the first song and started his career in 2001 after coming to Mumbai. His famous hits are ‘Teri Deewani’, ‘Saiyyan’, ‘Ya Rabba’, ‘Piya Ghar Aavenge’ etc. He is honoured with Padma Shri Award, Filmfare Award, Governor’s Award of Excellence etc.

During an interview, Kailash made a shocking revelation that there was a time when the constant failures and many deep wounds of life left him completely depressed. Once he started a handicraft business with a friend. However, this venture failed to achieve its goals and he suffered huge financial losses. This failure depressed him so much that he tried to end his life.

Kailash Kher said that the struggling period proved to be the biggest turning point in his life. After this he never looked back. He rebuilt himself through music, practice and self-confidence. And today he is not only a successful singer but also an inspiration to millions of people. With his hard work, experience and unique style, he reached the stage where every singer dreams of reaching.
