The budget for the financial year 2025-26 allocated nearly ₹1 lakh crore for the Ministry of Health. This amount was approximately 11 percent more than the previous year. This included announcements such as the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, customs duty exemptions on cancer drugs, and the opening of new AIIMS and medical colleges. This clearly indicates that the health sector is a priority for the government, but the question is: will this be further accelerated in the 2026 budget?
Pharma sector also needs support
Experts believe that the pharmaceutical industry should also receive support in the budget. Global supply chain issues, geopolitical tensions, and trade policies of countries like the United States are impacting Indian pharmaceutical companies. Therefore, it is crucial to promote domestic production and research.
Demand to increase spending on children’s health
Health experts say that India needs to pay more attention, especially to the health of children. The country has a large population of children, but spending on their health and nutrition is relatively low. Experts believe that increasing investment in children can lay the foundation for a healthy and strong India in the long run.
What to expect from Budget 2026
Budget 2026 is expected to increase the number and facilities of government hospitals, strengthen health infrastructure in rural areas, make medicines more affordable, and expand the scope of schemes like Ayushman Bharat.
