Shiv Nadar Tops EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 with ₹2,708 Crore Donation; Mukesh Ambani Ranks Second
In 2025, Indian philanthropy reached a new milestone, with generous citizens contributing a total of ₹10,380 crore (US$1.8 billion), according to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025. The list features 191 donors, including 12 new entrants, reflecting a growing culture of giving in India — which has seen an 85% increase in donations over the last three years.
HCL Technologies founder Shiv Nadar once again emerged as India’s most generous donor, retaining his top position for the fourth consecutive year. Nadar and his family contributed a remarkable ₹2,708 crore, equivalent to ₹7.4 crore per day, marking a 26% rise from last year. His philanthropic efforts continue to focus on education, arts, and culture, areas he has consistently supported through the Shiv Nadar Foundation.
Following him, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, secured the second spot with donations totaling ₹626 crore. The Bajaj family ranked third with ₹446 crore, a 27% increase from last year, while Kumar Mangalam Birla stood fourth with ₹440 crore in contributions. Gautam Adani and his family ranked fifth, donating ₹386 crore, reflecting a 17% growth compared to 2024.
Collectively, the top 10 philanthropists on the list donated ₹5,834 crore, accounting for 56% of India’s total charitable contributions and showing a 26% increase from the previous year. The report highlights that India’s wealthiest individuals are increasingly engaging in structured giving, signaling a strong rise in social responsibility and philanthropic leadership across the nation.
