Indian women’s hockey team won FIH Nations Cup: The Indian women’s hockey team crowned as champion of the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup New Zealand 2025-26. In the final match India defeated the host New Zealand team 2-0 at Auckland on Sunday.
Navneet Kaur (4th minute) gave India an early lead before Sunilita Toppo (15th minute) doubled India’s lead. Lalremsiami won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in the final, while Deepika finished as the joint-top scorer in the tournament with six goals to her name – sharing the honours with USA’s Ashley Sessa.
India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the Pool A matches, India beat USA (3-2), Japan (2-1) and Uruguay (3-2) and then recorded a resounding 6-0 win over Chile in the semi-finals. In the final too, the team performed well and won the title by defeating New Zealand 2-0. In recognition of the team’s achievement, Hockey India announced a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff.
