Two senior leaders of the party, former Minister of State Jyoti Priya Mallick and Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, have resigned from their respective posts on Friday.
Jyoti Priya Mallick quits TMC posts, Siliguri mayor also resigns: The ongoing internal crisis in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has deepened. Two senior leaders of the party, former Minister of State Jyoti Priya Mallick and Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, have resigned from their respective posts on Friday.
‘I have resigned from all the posts in the TMC because of my extremely poor health condition, which has deteriorated severely during the past few months. My blood sugar levels have shot up abnormally, and I am suffering from major kidney ailments. Under the circumstances, it is becoming impossible to shoulder responsibilities in the party working committee and other positions. It makes no sense to hold on to a post when you can’t work,’ Mr. Mallick said in his letter.
It is worth pointing out that Mallick was in charge of departments such as food, public distribution system, and forecast during the TMC regime. The development came days after the TMC had an organizational reshuffle in which Mallick was shifted to a new working committee.
Meanwhile, Gautam Deb submitted his resignation as mayor to the Siliguri Municipal Corporation commissioner . ‘I saw no point in continuing as mayor chair when the assembly election verdict favoured the BJP,’ Deb said
The twin exits add to a growing churn in the TMC’s organisational structure, which has seen multiple resignations across urban local bodies and party wings in recent weeks.
