Kosovo PM Pelted With Eggs by Opposition MP in Parliament: Kosovo’s parliament was suspended on Saturday after an opposition lawmaker threw eggs at the acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti during a session.
The disruption came after Kosovo PM Albin Kurti told lawmakers that he needed more time to negotiate with rival parties before proposing a candidate for speaker, underlining the ongoing political deadlock in the Balkan nation. ‘We do not yet have a political agreement. Therefore, to avoid new elections, I asked for additional time to present the name of the Speaker of Parliament,’ Kurti told lawmakers. Shortly after his remarks, Alliance party MP Time Kadrijaj pulled eggs from her purse and hurled them toward the Prime Minister while shouting, ‘Shame, shame.’
The confrontation led to the suspension of the parliamentary session. The chairperson directed that the live broadcast be stopped while security personnel surrounded Kurti. Time Kadrijaj later posted footage of the incident on social media.
Kurti appeared unfazed and said that if being hit by eggs was the cost of keeping political dialogue alive, ‘I am happy to pay this price.’ Kurti’s Vetevendosje emerged as the largest party with 53 of the 120 seats but fell short of the majority required to govern independently.
