Government Prioritizes Homes and Hospitals Amid LPG Supply Issues
LPG Crisis: Delhi High Court Lawyers’ Canteen Stops Cooking Meals: Cooking of main meals has been temporarily stopped at the lawyers’ canteen in the Delhi High Court due to a shortage of LPG gas cylinders.
In a notice issued by canteen representative Sandeep Sharma, the management said that it is currently not possible to cook regular meals because LPG supply is unavailable. The notice was sent to the court’s secretary and all advocates.
According to the notice, the canteen management does not know when the gas supply will be restored. Regular cooking and serving of main meals will start again once the LPG supply resumes.
However, the canteen will continue serving food items that do not require LPG. These include sandwiches, salads, fruit chaat, and beverages. The management also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to lawyers and visitors and asked for their cooperation.
Delhi High Court Canteen Explains Suspension of Main Meals Amid LPG Shortage
The shortage comes at a time when the central government recently increased the price of LPG cylinders by ₹60 on March 7. After the hike, the non-subsidized LPG cylinder price is ₹913 in Delhi, ₹939 in Kolkata, ₹912 in Mumbai, and ₹928 in Chennai.
Officials say the shortage is partly linked to disruptions in global energy supplies due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Because of this situation, the government has used the Essential Commodities Act to prioritize LPG supply for households, hospitals, and other essential services.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said the new order ensures full supply of piped gas for homes and CNG for vehicles. Other sectors will receive gas based on their average usage over the past six months.
India usually receives about 30 percent of its natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, and the ongoing regional conflict has created logistical challenges for energy supply.
