Global Energy Crisis Hits India, Railways Take Steps to Save LPG
LPG Crisis: Railways Ask Vendors to Use Microwaves and Induction Cookers: The conflict in West Asia involving United States, Israel, and Iran has started affecting global energy supply. Oil and gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have been disrupted, which has also impacted LPG supply in India.
To save LPG, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has asked food vendors at railway stations to use microwave ovens and electric induction cookers instead of LPG for cooking. The order applies to food plazas, refreshment rooms, and Jan Aahar outlets.
Railway officials said the LPG shortage is affecting catering services, and the Railways may temporarily stop serving cooked food on trains. Passengers who booked meals while buying tickets may receive refunds.
Meanwhile, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured people that there will be no shortage of LPG or CNG for households. He said the government has taken steps to ensure a stable energy supply.
