Viral Selfie Emerges After Cheetah Helicopter Crash in Ladakh
Major General’s Selfie After Ladakh Helicopter Crash Goes Viral: A Cheetah helicopter crashed near Tangtse in Leh-Ladakh on May 20, injuring three Indian Army officers. Among them was Major General Sachin Mehta, the General Officer Commanding of the 3rd Division. All three officers escaped with minor injuries, but the helicopter was destroyed.
The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry to find out the cause of the crash. A selfie taken by Major General Sachin Mehta after the accident has now gone viral on social media.
The helicopter was being flown by a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, while Major General Mehta was travelling as a passenger.
The Cheetah helicopter has been serving the Indian Army since 1971, especially in high-altitude Himalayan regions. Over the next 10 years, these helicopters will be replaced by HAL-made Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) under the Army’s modernisation program.
