Meta, one of the world’s largest social media companies, has agreed to pay $18 billion settlement over teen social media addiction. This settlement is considered to be the largest legal settlement against any tech giant in American history. Meta has also agreed to make major changes to its services to protect young users.
According to Meta, the company has settled with the US states for 18 billion dollars (about 1.60 lakh crore rupees). The company has paid these damages for allegations that Facebook and Instagram are addictive to children and misleading consumers. US states have accused the platform of stealing children’s data, exposing their personal information and breaching their security. The case was filed by nearly every state in the US, alleging that Meta intentionally designed features that would keep kids glued to the app for hours.
Meta has implemented the settlement following a California federal court ruling. Due to this settlement, Meta’s shares are seen falling by 4.4 percent.
