NLSIU called off 34th convocation ahead of CJI’s visit: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has canceled its 34th annual convocation. The annual convocation was scheduled to be held on September 12 for students graduating in 2026 batch. The development comes after a large group of students and alumni objected the proposed presence of Bar Council of India(BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra and Chief Justice of India Suryakant in the convocation.

According to the university, in a notice dated August 27, 2026, the registrar said that despite all efforts, the university could not conduct the convocation due to unavoidable circumstances. The 34th annual convocation was scheduled for September 12. The academic administration team had informed the students about the proposed date of graduation on August 3. The university informed that all the graduate students will be awarded degrees without any ceremony after getting necessary approvals. Students will be given the option of picking up their degrees and certificates via courier or in person from the campus. For this, the university will share a new form and complete process with the students, in which they will be able to choose the option of their choice.
On August 13, the BCI had decided to stop the enrollment of the graduating batch of NALSAR. However, the BCI withdrew its decision to block nominations within hours. After this the issue also gained momentum in NLSIU and the students there protested against the action of BCI.
