Explosive Trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O Romeo’ Sparks Buzz and Controversy Ahead of February 13 Release
‘O’ Romeo’ Trailer Out: Shahid Kapoor’s Savage Avatar Steals the Spotlight in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Action Drama: The much-anticipated trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming directorial O Romeo was unveiled on January 21, instantly igniting conversations across social media for its raw intensity, violent undertones, and bold storytelling. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is slated for a theatrical release on February 13 and is inspired by a true story.
The trailer introduces Shahid Kapoor in the role of feared gangster Hussain Ustra, while Tripti Dimri essays the character of Sapna Didi, another powerful figure from the underworld. Their turbulent love story forms the emotional core of the narrative, tracing how betrayal and separation transform Ustra into a broken “Romeo” driven by obsession and rage. Veteran actor Nana Patekar plays a stern police officer who repeatedly warns Shahid’s character, adding tension to the cat-and-mouse dynamic between law and crime.
Packed with intense action sequences, unabashed violence, and several unbeeped profanities, the trailer has drawn comparisons to films like Animal and Dhurandhar. Shahid Kapoor’s aggressive, emotionally volatile portrayal has also reminded many viewers of his character Kabir Singh. However, Avinash Tiwari, who appears briefly in the trailer, has managed to steal the spotlight with his striking screen presence and powerful dialogue delivery, earning widespread praise from audiences.

The ensemble cast of O Romeo includes Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, Avinash Tiwari, and a special appearance by Vikrant Massey. Aruna Irani, Hussain Dalal, and Rahul Deshpande also play key roles. The story is penned by noted journalist and author Hussain Zaidi, while the screenplay is written by Vishal Bhardwaj and Rohan Narula. Bhardwaj has also written the film’s dialogues, which are already being hailed as both impactful and meme-worthy.
However, the film has landed in controversy even before its release. Sanobar, the daughter of gangster Hussain Ustra, has sent a legal notice to the makers objecting to the film’s portrayal of her father. She has demanded that the release be postponed and has sought ₹2 crore in compensation within seven days, alleging that the film presents Ustra in a negative light. She also claimed that Sapna Didi shared a brother-sister relationship with her grandfather, contrary to the romantic angle depicted in the film.
Despite the controversy, O Romeo continues to generate significant buzz, with audiences eagerly awaiting to see Vishal Bhardwaj’s gritty take on love, crime, and obsession when the film hits cinemas on February 13.
