OPCC call for Odisha bandh on Oct 8: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Tuesday called for Odisha bandh on October 8. PCC president Bhakta Charan Das appealed to members of the INDIA bloc to join the bandh and extend their support to the protest.
The bandh targets the controversial Central Mines and Minerals(Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Amendment Act, 2026. As part of the proposed blockade, Congress called for ‘economic blockade’ (mining, mineral extraction, and transportation of minerals to be stopped for seven days). The organization also demanded the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond over alleged irregularities in government issued text books. Meanwhile, the farmers’ rights outfit Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) will observe a statewide Odisha bandh on September 30.
During the bandh, shops, markets, commercial establishments and other private establishments are expected to remain closed. Public transport services, including buses, may also be affected. However, emergency services such as hospitals and ambulance, fire services, clinics etc will not be affected by bandh.
